Quinta Shantimar is a unique estate. The main house commands breathtaking, 180º east to west views of the dramatic Algarve coastline. The main house, laid out over two floors, is approached by a 200 metre long cobbled stone drive through its own umbrella pine forest created from tiny saplings planted by the present owners twenty four years ago. The house, first built to very high standards in 1972, was extended with a second floor in 1990, designed by Algarve architect Ricardo Soeiro.

Leading off from an impressive entrance hall, the ground floor of the main house comprises four bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a spacious drawing room with a feature fireplace and full height windows leading on to a large partly covered, partly glass enclosed veranda with stunning views. A spacious and charming dining room with large windows looks out onto the pretty patio and garden, flood lit at night. A large fully equipped kitchen has adjoining it a pantry, a laundry room and garage/storage room. The large patio area and the veranda at the front of the house provide for “al fresco” dining and entertainment.

The second floor is laid out as a self-contained master apartment. It comprises a large bedroom with panoramic floor to ceiling windows leading out to a large terrace, overlooking the spectacular bay and sweeping ocean views, a den/office with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, his and her dressing rooms, a bathroom with a sunken bath looking out through a one way window giving views of the coastline as far as the eye can see, a large walk-in shower and a separate cloakroom. There is also a very large vaulted storage space under the eaves of the house which has easy access.

Most rooms face due south, with views of the sea. Being south facing they benefit from highly efficient heating by the sun in winter and fresh breezes throughout the summer. The house is well heated/cooled throughout with hot/cold air conditioning and all windows are double-glazed.

The sun-drenched pool is effectively heated by solar panels. There is a permanent gazebo alongside for welcome shade and there is a “balneario” with two spacious changing rooms having solar panel heated showers, a separate WC/basin room and storage room for pool/beach toys.

The staff/guest cottage is a detached villa with its own garden comprising three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, storage room and garage.
